The Irish can boldly claim to be the inventors of whiskey – and for a time in the 1800s, they were the certified masters of the distillery world. Scotland has since eclipsed the Irish in terms of sheer scale and complexity – but there’s no doubt that Irish whiskies still pack a powerful punch.

Until recently, Ireland only had three working distilleries – amazing for a country that is credited with inventing the process of distillation! Now, distilleries are popping up all over the place in Ireland, and the halcyon days of Irish whiskey production look to be set to return.
